Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller said Gregory Konrath, 48, called deputies on July 4 to come check on his live-in girlfriend, who he said was making suicidal statements. When deputies arrived at the home on North Lincoln Street in Peru, the girlfriend told them she was not suicidal, but that Konrath was planning to kill his ex-wife.

He said the ammunition would not penetrate the skull a second time, which would cause more damage. He also talked about wearing two layers of clothing so the top layer could easily be taken off. He even picked out the dumpster that he would use to get rid of the clothing.

Konrath then went on to tell his girlfriend he did some research on his phone for his plan then got rid of the phone.

Konrath went on to tell his girlfriend that he took the gun to a range. He said he had not handled the gun without gloves in order to prevent the gun from being traced to him.

Detectives were able to find a loaded .38 caliber revolver with hollow-point ammunition and bag of clothing and gloves mentioned in the recordings in his garage.

Konrath agreed to be interviewed and confirmed details of the plot. He was arrested Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder. His bond was set at $250,000.
