INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The community of Gary, Indiana will come together to honor a police officer killed in the line of duty.
Authorities said Officer Jeffery Westerfield was shot to death in his patrol car Sunday morning, on his 47th birthday.
The visitation is Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Genesis Convention Center. His funeral service is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Monday at the same location.
A $10,000 reward is now being offered for information connected to his death. Police have a person of interest in custody, but no arrests have been made.
Westerfield is one of three officers recently killed in Indiana in the line of duty. Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Calvin was laid to rest a week prior. The 31-year-old died when he lost control of his car last week on a rural road, while responding to a call.
