Basketball goal reinstalled in Columbian Park

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – One basketball goal is back at Columbian Park.

Lafayette Parks and Recreation reinstalled the goal last Wednesday after cameras were put up around the court.

Last year, both hoops were removed from Columbian Park after multiple complaints of fighting and foul language. Since the basketball goals were taken down, park officials said they haven’t had any problems.

Director of Park Operations Jon Miner said he’s hopeful the cameras will help address the issues from last year.

“We think we’ve put in place a security system to monitor that and hopefully tamp down some of that negative behavior, so those concerns don’t rise to the forefront again,” said Miner.

No decision has been made about installing the second goal.

Miner said they will monitor the court to make sure everything goes well.
