WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette Jeff senior Samantha Hatter extended her eight stroke lead by shooting a 75 Sunday at Coyote Crossing to clinch the Women’s City Golf Tournament title.
Hatter finished with a two-day total of 149 and won by 12 strokes against former Twin Lakes golfer Ashley Wright who carded a 161. Tina Anderson rounded out the top three with a 163.
“I tried to play my best. I had a couple bumps in the road in the middle, but my caddy helped me calm down and keep a good composure and finish out strong,” said Hatter.
The caddy she spoke of was none other than Lafayette Jeff head coach and her dad John Hatter. He was her biggest fan on Saturday afternoon and was there to keep her thinking about pars.
“Pretty much what I told her was, ‘we’re just looking for pars.’ We don’t need anything spectacular out there, we’re looking for fairways and greens and 2 putts when we get there and don’t make more of this than it is and just relax and enjoy yourself,” said Hatter.
The women’s golf tournament, which was sponsored for the first time by Cathy Russell Team Real Estate, has not had a back-to-back winner since Tina Wiley Flook won four straight from 2007 to 2010.
