INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police in Indianapolis say they have arrested a man after a woman was found dead on the city’s northwest side late Sunday night.

Homicide detectives arrested 38-year-old Chad Gilman of Indianapolis. He has been preliminarily charged with murder.

Police were called to the scene in the 4600 block of Lynnfield Road around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Callers told police a man was outside the apartments screaming that his girlfriend was dead. The woman’s boyfriend also called 911. He was taken in for police questioning as a person of interest.

Police said Sunday night the victim had signs of trauma on her body.

Detectives say Gilman is accused of hitting the victim with a hammer during a dispute between the two. Police haven’t said if Gilman is the victim’s boyfriend.

Gilman was taken to the Arrestee Processing Center. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make a final charging decision. The woman’s name has not yet been released.
