WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Three and a half years ago, 300 East in White County was the scene of a single-vehicle accident. Abby Pattengale was five months pregnant, her friend was driving, her son was in the car and ice littered the road.
“[The driver] kind of tapped the brake a little hard,” Pattengale said. “We were fishtailing. We ended up facing the opposite direction, hit the ditch parallel and rolled over.
The vehicle stopped in a nearby field. It’s what happened after that is starting a new search.
“One man had come out and helped me out of the snow and my friend was tending to my son,” Pattengale said. “Then this family came up in a truck. It was a tan Chevy.”
Pattengale was thrown from the car. She and her son were taken to Lafayette hospitals, but no one had major injuries.
Pattengale is now looking for the couple with the tan Chevrolet who helped the mother and son.
“They let my son sit in their car,” Pattengale said. “They helped me into the car to sit and warm up. We were covered in snow. They were just really gracious and nice.”
Three and a half years have gone by and Pattengale has thought of the couple, but it wasn’t until recently when she decided she wanted to find them.
“A couple weeks ago for some reason I had this urge to meet them,” Pattengale said. “I want to shake their hands and thank them.”
Pattengale said she was in a state of shock and did not ask the couple for their names at the scene. She hopes they are written as witnesses on the crash report, but from there she only knows the color of their truck at the time.
