WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The woman who died following a crash on a wave runner on Lake Shafer has been identified as an Illinois resident.

Anne Wittstock, 43, died after she drove the wave runner into the NIPSCO security cables that keep boaters away from the Norway Dam.

Nearby boaters were able to recover Wittstock from the water and begin CPR.

She was taken to the IU White Memorial Hospital and later flown to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was pronounced dead.

The passenger on the wave runner, Joseph Allen, also of Illiniois, was not injured.

Conservation officers said alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in this crash.
