PERU, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department were called to a crash on U.S. 31 at Miami County Road 100 North where a man was injured.
The crash happened around 12:56 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to initial reports a 2004 Dodge 3500 van was stopped at a red light. The car was heading southbound on U.S. 31. A 2006 Mack dump truck was also stopped at the light behind the van. When the light turned green both vehicles proceeded. However, the driver of the dump truck accelerated too quickly and rear ended the van.
Claude Robinson, 55, a passenger in the van was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the van Anthony Swindle, 31, and driver of the dump truck Jason Grigsby, 37, were not injured.
All those involved were wearing seat belts.
Gibson received a traffic citation for following another vehicle too closely.
Troopers said neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash.
