West Lafayette’s Carlisle commits to San Jose State

Nai Carlisle

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Sports 18 has confirmed that West Lafayette’s Nai Carlisle has committed to play basketball at San Jose State University.

Carlisle picked up an offer from the Spartans in early June, and gave his verbal commitment to them Monday night.

“It’s like ten minutes from where I grew up,” Carlisle said. “The coaching staff had like a clear plan of how I fit in into the offense and they liked how I play defense, and it was just a great fit overall. I still have to keep getting better and keep trying to prove myself, and just keep playing harder. I just feel like it’s the right school right now, and we’re just going to go through the process and keep getting a better relationship with the coaches. I just feel like it’s the right school.”

The class of 2016 guard is heading into his junior year with the Red Devils under head coach Dave Wood.  Wood says he was excited to see Carlisle happy with his choice to play for the Spartans.

“It makes me very proud,” Wood said. “I’m proud of all of my guys. I love my guys, and I’m proud of them, but certainly I had a big smile on my face when he contacted me and told me he was going to commit to San Jose State. So I know he’s very happy. I know his family is very happy, and yes I’m very happy for them, and for him.”
