PERU, Ind. (WLFI) – An orthopedic surgeon accused of plotting to murder his ex-wife said he is innocent.

News 18′s Holly Campbell met with 48-year-old Gregory Konrath at the Miami County jail Wednesday. Konrath faces one charge of attempted murder.

Konrath was arrested earlier this month after his live-in girlfriend told police he was plotting to murder his ex-wife. His girlfriend told police she had a recording of Konrath describing the plan. Konrath said he has not heard the recording, so he does not know if it is him talking. He did tell us, he did not plot to murder his ex-wife.

“I have no, or had no intention of hurting or killing my ex-wife,” Konrath said. “She’s the mother of my kids. She’s taking care of them. If she was dead, I couldn’t take care of them. I wouldn’t want to. I wouldn’t have the time.

Konrath worked at the Lafayette Orthopedic Clinic for 11 years before moving to Peru to work at Duke’s Memorial Hospital.

Coming up on News 18 at Five and Six, Holly Campbell will have more on Konrath’s reasons for wanting to talk to media and more details about the relationship with his ex-wife.
