Make your own melody in Greater Lafayette

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — For the past week, Greater Lafayette has been a little more musical thanks to an art project called Pianos for the Street.

As News 18 previously reported, the Tippecanoe Music Teachers Association recently purchased six pianos and placed them throughout the Greater Lafayette area.

The pianos are a part of a pilot program to view community reaction on the project and to test how long the pianos can withstand the elements. The program promotes arts and music education in Greater Lafayette community.

Organizer Caryl Mathews said she is proud of the reaction the pianos have gotten from area residents.

“It shows that this community, West Lafayette-Lafayette communities, really value the arts and like to have projects like this,” Mathews said.

The project kicked off on July 11. The pianos will remain open to the public until July 28. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
