Identity of fire victim in critical condition released

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Information has been released on the victim who is in serious condition after a fire at a Lafayette apartment complex Thursday night.

Investigators said the victim of Thursday night’s fire at The Bluffs apartment complex has been identified as 52-year-old Christopher Roesel, of Lafayette. Firefighters said when they arrived on scene, fire and smoke were coming out of a third floor apartment.

Emergency personnel were able to remove Roesel from inside and rush him to the hospital. Roesel was airlifted to Indianapolis and remains in critical but stable condition at Eskenzai Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

More than 60 residents were evacuated Thursday night and stayed in hotel rooms.

Investigators said the cause of the fire is undetermined. The case remains under investigation.
