Man in critical after Thursday night fire

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette man was in critical condition late Friday night after an apartment fire Thursday night.

Christopher Roesel, 52, is at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Firefighters believe the fire started in his living room.

Damon Holt was one of a few people who tried to crawl in and save Roesel Thursday, but he tells News 18 the flames were just too much.

“About 10 feet in, my feet were all the way in the door and I was crawling on the ground. But the flames were right off to my left, from right behind the oven all the way up the side of the wall,” said Holt. “It was not a pretty sight. I never want to be in that again.”

The fire displaced more than 60 residents at The Bluffs apartment complex.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
