INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana South high school football team took an early lead against the North en route to a 30-2 victory during the 48th annual Grange Insurance All-Star Classic at North Central High School on Friday in Indianapolis.
Cardinal Ritter alum Jake Purichia threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Avon graduate Cress Kimbrough. On the subsequent North drive, former Perry Central standout Austin Leclere returned an interception off Lafayette Central Catholic alum Ty Preston for a touchdown.
“I was looking at the flat and then Nate said that he had trouble seeing the pass out of my hand and then the next thing he knew it was right there and bounced off his pads,” said Ty Preston.
“Took my eye off of it just for a second and it got tipped. Just a weird bobble and it got into the right hands for the South. It’s something I take full responsibility for,” said Nate Deno.
The designated home team held its northern counterpart to just 19 first-half yards and forced four three-and-outs.
North broke the shutout when former Fort Wayne Snider defensive end Donavin O’Day tackled New Albany alum Tuwan Payton for the safety late in the first half.
The South has now won four straight and leads the all-time series 27-21.
