LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A record number participants, about 940 in all, ran in Saturday morning’s Zoo Run Run at Columbian Park.

They ran 3.1 miles around Columbian Park before finishing near the Zoo. There was also a short fun run for children who didn’t compete in the main race.

Participants were able to stop in and visit some animals after their run. The goal of the event is make residents aware of the zoo and it’s amenities, and also raises funds for the non-profit organization.

“I think by us raising that additional money it helps make sure that the zoo is going to be here for a long time and continue to improve, so that the community is still interested in that,” said Friends of the Columbian Park Zoo board member Emily Truett.

This year’s money hasn’t been designated just yet, but has brought in new exhibits and animals in the past.
