NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) – A man was hit and killed by a train in New Haven Saturday night.
A New Haven Police Department detective at the scene said they were called to the tracks at the intersection of Main and West streets at 10:27 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The detective said the man was on a motorized wheelchair when he was sideswiped by the train. Police said it’s still unclear how or why he was hit. They didn’t say if he was on the tracks or next to them when he was hit.
Police weren’t sure how fast the train was going and are talking with the engineers to get more information. They did say the train signals, crossbars and lights were working. The train tracks are a Norfolk Southern line.
The man’s name has not been released yet.
