BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The son of rocker John Mellencamp, who was arrested last year on battery charges, is in trouble with the law again.

Hud Mellencamp is facing charges in Monroe County for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor. Online court documents indicate charges were filed on July 10.

Mellencamp surrendered for arrest last year on charges of punching and kicking a then-19-year-old man at a Bloomington house. Hud’s brother, Speck, was also arrested in the case.

Authorities say Speck attacked the man, believing the man had punched him in the face earlier that night during a party at the same house. Court documents say the Mellencamps and 19-year-old Ty Smith, son of Indiana University’s baseball coach Tracy Smith, “punched, kicked and stomped” the man.

The Mellencamps will be back in court in that case on July 24. An initial hearing for Hud Mellencamp’s most recent arrest has been scheduled for Sept. 25.
