LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A herd of cattle made its way through the Tippecanoe Fairgrounds Tuesday night, and among it two new champions have been named.
Ethan Buck won Grand Champion Steer and said, “It feels exhilarating, I mean the feeling is just amazing.”
Buck said his next step is taking his award-winning steer to the state fair.
Grand Champion Heifer was awarded to Connor Royer, her second year winning with the same animal.
“She’s a fall born. You’re allowed to show them twice,” Royer explained. “So last year, I won with her. We took her out again this year, and I’m glad I did.”
Royer said she too will take her winning heifer to the state fair.
However after the fair, Royer has other plans for her blue-ribbon animal. She will turn her out to the pasture because she said she’s due in about a month and you can’t really show her after she has a baby.
On Wednesday, judges will select the grand champion gilt and barrow.
The Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair runs through Saturday.
