LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo is once again outfitting kids with book bags full of school supplies. GLIBE is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College for the fifth annual Back to School Rally, and it hopes to help more kids than ever.
“We’re increasing the number of book bags we’re giving away from 350 last year to 500 this year, so we’re very pleased about the increase,” GLIBE chapter president Jesse Moore said when he appeared as a guest on News 18 This Morning.
The rally will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ivy Tech courtyard at 3101 S. Creasy Lane in Lafayette.
Ivy Tech officials hope the campus makes a lasting impact on the young kids at the rally.
“We actually like to start younger and younger. We like to open our doors and help these students understand the opportunities in town,” remarked Andrew Antonio, Ivy Tech executive director of diversity.
The rally is on a first come first serve basis, so you are advised to arrive early.
