WL adult daycare proposal gets special exception

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Dozens of supporters for a proposed new adult daycare in West Lafayette got their wish Wednesday night.

The Board of Zoning Appeals approved three variances and a special exception to allow the daycare to operate as planned at the corner of Salisbury and Lindberg.

Joyful Journey President Cathy Benner hopes to open up by next summer.

According to code, area planning staff had to recommend denial. But Mayor John Dennis wrote a letter in favor of the request and in an unusual move, three city council members also spoke up.

“That just gives us the encouragement that what we’re doing is groundbreaking,” said Benner. “It’s a first for West Lafayette, for Lafayette and for the community so we’re excited to start it.”
