WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The West Lafayette Red Devils wrapped up their team camp Thursday night at the Salisbury Athletic Complex.
West Lafayette will look to build on last years 12-2 season that ended with a semi-state loss at Andrean. They will look to do so without quarterback Parker Ronchetto and their “every down” back Maurice Woodard who both graduated.
So far so good for RDP, head coach Shane Fry and wide receiver Kyle Turner are encouraged with the work they’ve gotten in so far and are excited with the teams potential heading into this season.
“You know our guys have been working real hard in the weight room strength and conditioning all summer long, but we haven’t done a lot of football. So this week we have concentrated on football, you know, install offense and install defense,” said Shane Fry. “We had a little bit of hot weather so that was nice to kind of get us used to because I have feeling when it comes to August it’s going to be really warm. We’ve had helmet and shoulder pads on and our young guys have gotten a lot of reps so it’s been going well for us.”
“It’s great to strap up the pads any day you get out here, and I mean we’ve been working at the high school all summer. And so, it’s great to get back out on the field at the complex, and I think everyone is ready for the season,” said Kyle Turner.
West Lafayette will square off against Tri-West at home to begin the 2014 season. The Red Devils will then head on the road for weeks two and three against the McCutcheon Mavericks and Delphi Oracles.
