WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Matt Toney defeats Luke Brzezinski 4 and 3 to win the Men’s City Golf Championships, presented by the Bob Rohrman Auto Group, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Toney was 3-up after the front nine. On the 10th hole, Brzezinski was just a little off the mark on a putt. Toney on the other hand, nailed a short putt to go 4-up.
Brzezinski looked to be making a comeback when he hit a tough putt down the slope on the 12th hole.
However, the former Harrison Raider could not convert on the 13th and Toney capitalized. The former golf pro made another short putt and inched closer to victory.
“I know he’s capable of making big comebacks. He just did it yesterday. He was four or five down. I was just trying to hit good shots, trying to play each hole one at a time,” said Toney.
Brzezinski needed to sink a putt on the 15th hole to stay alive, and it steered just wide as he went to congratulate Toney on the victory.
“Feels great. It’s a bonus. I wanted to just come out and play well. So, try to never get ahead of yourself too much. So, it really hasn’t sunk in yet. Just really glad that I’m taking home the trophy,” said Toney, the new champion.
