WARSAW, Ind. (AP) — Thousands of chickens have been killed in a fire on a northern Indiana farm.

WSBT-TV reports 65,000 chickens died in a fire that broke out at Egg Innovations early Monday morning. The Atwood Fire Department responded to the Warsaw business around 5 a.m.

Firefighters say no employees were harmed, but the building that housed the chickens was also destroyed.

The chickens were about four weeks away from laying eggs.

Officials say they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
