Michael Marion Memorial Charity Ride

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Michael Marion Memorial Charity Ride happening this weekend is an event that raises money for events like Shop with a Cop and other charities.

The charity ride is named after one of the original event organizers, Michael Marion, who passed away last year.

West Lafayette Police Sgt. Cindy Marion stopped by News 18 at Noon to talk about the ways the charity ride helps out the community.

One of the events the charity ride helps to fund is Shop with a Cop, when police officers take under privileged kids shopping for Christmas.

“It’s amazing and some of the kids are absolutely amazing. They’re more concerned about the rest of their families than they are themselves,” said Marion.

The two organizations that help plan and organize the event, as well as advertise it, are the Blue Knights West Lafayette Chapter XVI and the West Lafayette FOP Lodge 135.

The event takes place this Saturday, Aug. 3. Registration is from 10 a.m. until noon at the American Legion Post 492.

The ride will begin at noon. It is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger which includes a meal. The first 100 riders will receive a T-shirt.
