LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A former finance manager at a Lafayette auto dealership has received a six year sentence for stealing thousands of dollars from customers.

Craig Edwards, 36, worked at Kendrick Nissan in 2013. On several occasions, prosecutors say Edwards took cash from customers, telling them the company computer was “not working.” He then crafted and signed receipts for them.

The company became suspicious when two customers complained about not getting title work for a vehicle they purchased. Investigators believe Edwards stole more than $16,000 from five customers and an additional $5,000 off receipts that were unaccounted for.

Edwards admitted to taking the money in a text to his former boss. He pleaded guilty to forgery earlier this year. He was sentenced to five years in community corrections and one year supervised probation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
