FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) — Due to the recent tragedy at the TPA Swimming Pool, Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has closed the pool for the remainder of the season, effective Wednesday.

By executive order, McBarnes directed the pool be closed for the rest of the season. He said the decision to take this step of action was “out of respect to the family involved in the tragedy and to allow Frankfort police to continue their thorough investigation to help assure the safety of all who use the pool in the future.”

McBarnes continued, “On behalf of the entire community, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family, loved ones and friends of Adrian Alanis. I ask all of my fellow residents to join with me in keeping Adrian’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking and painful time.”

A comprehensive review of pool operations is being implemented. McBarnes said steps — including reinforced safety measures, additional training for all lifeguards and pool staff and a review of the working mechanisms of the pool itself — are being undertaken to help ensure the safety at the TPA Pool.

In addition, all pool parties previously scheduled will be fully refunded.
