New K-9 unit fighting crime in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – There is a new K-9 unit patrolling the streets of Lafayette.

Lafayette Police Department Officer Joshua Saxton and 2-year-old Belgian Malinois Boyka started training together in June. Boyka is a dual purpose narcotics and patrol K-9.

Saxton said it is nice to know he has a partner in fighting crime.

“He actually makes my job really easy. He makes me look good. He’s very intelligent and learns very fast. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’m really excited and I’m hoping to finish out my career with a K-9. I’ve got a long way to go for that though,” said Saxton.

Boyka, like most police dogs, was trained in Germany before coming to the United States.
