INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A semi carrying 45,000 pounds of butter and whipped cream crashed along Interstate 465 on the south side of Indianapolis early Friday morning.

The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-465 just west of Interstate 65. Investigators at the scene are looking into what caused the crash. Preliminarily they think the semi driver fell asleep.

Reports from the scene indicate the semi split in half spilling containers of butter and whipped cream products across the highway. Among the products were Reddi wip, Blue Bonnet butter, and Parkay spray butter.

The right two lanes of the interstate were expected to be closed for hours while crews cleaned up the mess. No one was injured.
