WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)  – The storms caused a drainage pipe to break at a West Lafayette assisted living facility.

The West Lafayette Fire Department was called to Friendship House on Cumberland Avenue around 4:30 p.m. One of the drainage pipes connected to the roof of the building broke, flooding the lobby of the building.

Crews were able to repair the pipe after clogging the drain on the roof.

Firefighters said the heavy rain was too much for the pipe drain to handle.

“In these types of rain events or heavy snow, it’s just a lot of extra material on these buildings. That sometimes, due to their age, they’re susceptible to failure,” said Ben Jones with the West Lafayette Fire Department.

Crews were able to contain the flooding to the lobby. No injuries were reported. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
