Motorcycle ride helps Shop with a Cop

Shop with a cop ride

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A group of police officers and motorcyclists spent Sunday making sure every child has the Christmas they deserve.

A motorcycle ride hosted by the Indiana Blue Knights Chapter XVI and FOP Lodge 135 helped raise money for Shop with a Cop. The program, which takes place at the beginning of December, pairs up an officer with a child in need.

The officer takes the child shopping for Christmas. Indiana Blue Knights members said the need for the program keeps growing.

“The last four or five years we have seen a huge increase in need,” Indiana Blue Knights Chapter XVI vice president Gary Sparger said. “It’s gotten to the point where it’s just about a year round fundraising effort to try to manage that need.”

“Last year, they were able to service 25 children where they team them up with a uniformed police officer and take them shopping for Christmas,” Indiana Blue Knights Chapter XVI president John Moore said.

Fundraising will pick back up later this year. A date has yet to be set for this year’s Shop with a Cop.
