LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police took one man into custody after they were called to a home in the 2000 block of Schuyler Avenue.

Just after 2 a.m. Monday, a man called LPD to say that his father had been drinking and had shot a gun inside the home.

When officers arrived, they identified the shooter as 49-year-old Douglas Butler.

Police determined that only one round was shot, and that the bullet hit the chimney and then ricocheted. No one was hit.

When LPD traced the gun, they found it was a stolen gun that may have been involved in a police case from 1994. No more information on this case was available.

Butler was arrested and is facing charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen handgun.
