3 dead after shooting in White County

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Three people are dead after a shooting at a Monticello business Tuesday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, police got a call of shots fired at Jordan Manufacturing, 1200 S. Sixth St., in Monticello.

White County Sheriff Pat Shafer said when first responders got to the scene they found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound. That’s when they noticed another man and a woman inside a nearby car with gunshot wounds as well.

Shafer said the two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was rushed to IU White Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

News 18 spoke to a witness who said she saw the whole thing happen. She said the shooter walked into the office with a box wrapped like a present looking for his ex-wife who was out at lunch. The witness said shortly after she went outside to make a phone call and that’s when she saw the shooter hiding behind a tree.

The witness said his ex-wife and her boyfriend pulled into a parking spot a few seconds later and she started walking over to them to tell her that her ex-husband was there. The witness said the shooter jumped out from behind the tree with a gun, said hello to the couple, then shot the man, his ex-wife, then himself.

Shafer said the names of the three people will be released after he talks with the coroner.

Jordan Manufacturing, which produces furniture and furniture accessories, is closed the remainder of Tuesday.
