WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Indiana Veterans’ Home will host its first 5K and one mile fun run and walk at the end of August. Superintendent Linda Sharp stopped by News 18 at Noon to discuss the first event of its kind for the IVH.
Sharp told News 18 the event was very important to the home and the money raised will be going towards restoring the Commandants House on campus.
“The Commandants Home was built in 1897 and it is in need of love,” Sharp said. “It has been vacant for 10 years.”
She said the home has been maintaining it, but its in need of much more work.
Sharp said the event is the first of its kind for the Veterans’ Home and organizers are very excited.
“This is something the group has been planning. We’re trying to come up with different ideas to get the community involved,” Sharp said. “The course is actually around the [IVH] campus, so that way they can see how beautiful the campus is and what we have here.”
Sharp said the run will begin in front of the Commandants House. She said they have a very challenging hill at the beginning of the race for those that love to run.
The event will take place on Aug. 23 at the Indiana Veterans’ Home, 3851 N. River Road, in West Lafayette. The 5K event starts at 8:15 a.m., followed by the one-mile fun run/walk beginning at 8:20 a.m.
