LPD promotes crime prevention with a night out

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Lafayette Police Department promoted crime prevention as part of a nationwide campaign.

LPD spent National Night Out set up at Loeb Stadium, outside of the Colt World Series Tuesday. Lt. Jim Taul said it’s not only about raising awareness for younger kids, but whole neighborhoods as well.

“We encourage neighborhoods to get together, have block parties, cookouts. If nothing else, just turn on their porch light on National Night Out. That’s what it started out as 20-25 years ago and it has progressed to what you see here today,” said Taul.

The officers were also encouraging people to sign up for Nextdoor and Nixle Alerts. Taul said Lafayette has 73 neighborhoods on Nextdoor and that number continues to grow every day.
