TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood donors, especially those with special blood types. The need is greater in the summer as blood donations often decline during those months, according to Red Cross officials.

The American Red Cross, a non-profit organization, supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood and depends on the generosity of volunteers to perform its mission. The Red Cross said they need donors of all blood types to give before the Labor Day holiday, but are especially in need of donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood.

The Red Cross said to encourage donations over the Labor Day holiday weekend, all donors who come out to donate blood Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 will receive a Red Cross mason jar tumbler — while supplies last.
