Red Cross needs special blood type donors

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood donors, especially those with special blood types. The need is greater in the summer as blood donations often decline during those months, according to Red Cross officials.

The American Red Cross, a non-profit organization, supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood and depends on the generosity of volunteers to perform its mission. The Red Cross said they need donors of all blood types to give before the Labor Day holiday, but are especially in need of donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood.

The Red Cross said to encourage donations over the Labor Day holiday weekend, all donors who come out to donate blood Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 will receive a Red Cross mason jar tumbler — while supplies last.

Benton County:

Wednesday, Aug. 20 – From noon to 5:30 p.m. at Fowler United Methodist Church, 908 E. 12th St., in Fowler

Friday, Aug. 22 – From 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Benton Central High School, 4241 E. 300 South, in Oxford

Friday, Aug. 22 – From 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Benton Central High School, 4241 E. 300 South, in Oxford

Saturday, Aug. 30 – From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Earl Park Festival, U.S. 41 and U.S. 52, in Earl Park

Clinton County:

Saturday, Aug. 23 – From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Advance Auto Parts, 380 W. Walnut St., in Frankfort

Tuesday, Aug. 26 – From 8 a.m. to noon at St. Vincent Hospital, 1300 S. Jackson St., in Frankfort

Thursday, Aug. 28 – From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Milky Way, 750 Washington Ave., in Frankfort

Montgomery County:

Saturday, Aug. 30 – From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at New Harvest Church, 212 S. Water St., in Crawfordsville

Tippecanoe County:

Monday, Aug. 25 – From noon to 5 p.m. at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, 1051 Cumberland Ave., in West Lafayette

White County:

Thursday, Aug. 21 – From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Monon Civic Center, 400 N. Market St., in Monon
