WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Faith Church leaders are asking for a tax exemption for the Faith West property in West Lafayette.

The Property Tax Board of Appeals heard testimony from Senior Pastor Steve Viars Thursday morning. The organization is asking for 96.5 percent of taxes be exempt. Viars said he is confident the board will apply the law after learning more about the organization’s mission.

“The whole issue is, are we really a non-profit organization?” Viars said. “Are we acting in a way that is consistent with, in our case, religious charitable purpose?”

The board has 120 days to make a decision on the case. The application submitted for a tax exemption by Faith Church includes apartments, religious centers and a community center.
