Fresh City Market opens its doors for business

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – After nearly two years of construction, businesses are now opening at the new building across from Mackey Arena.

Fresh City Market opened its doors for the first time Monday. The new grocery store is one of two in the U.S. and offers many local products, including beef from Boilermaker Butcher Block Beef.

Store owner Jeff Maurer said business has been a little busier than expected, but it has been fun.

“For me personally, it was a huge relief to get the doors open because there’s so much planning and so much preparation, especially watching a building like this to go. A smaller building to be torn down and a larger building to be built, so to be watching the progress has been very long,” said Maurer.

Business could pick up even more with students moving in over the next few weeks.

Maurer said he hopes people nearby will feel encouraged to shop for today’s meal and to come back for tomorrow’s.

In addition to Fresh City Market, the Purdue Book store has opened as well in the new building.
