McCutcheon football seeks instant success in new conference

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — This year brings a new opportunity for the McCutcheon football team. The Mavs will be playing in North Central Conference instead of the very competitive Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

Over the past four years, the Mavericks have increased their win-total by one game per year. A new conference brings confidence to head coach Ken Frauhiger.

“We want to do well in our conference. We want to win sectionals. That’s the overall goal. We got to do well in conference, and we got to win a sectional,” said Frauhiger.

Defensive back Cole Taylor shares the head coach’s enthusiasm.

“I mean we’ve been working hard all summer. And the confidence has been there off the four wins from last year, and we’re ready to go,” said Taylor. “We could play a game tomorrow.”

Mavs defensive tackle Brad Myers believes the squad can do more than just win the NCC.

“That’s the main goal and then win a sectional game,” said Myers.

Running back Blake Elming thinks the Mavs can do more than just win games against their new opponents in the conference.

“We’re going to see a lot of new teams we didn’t play last year. Should be a little easier than the conference we were in last year,” said Elming. “Teams don’t fear us right now, but I think we’ll install the fear in them.”
