Dogs dare the cool temps to take a dip

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – More than 50 pooches battled the wind and cool temperatures Tuesday just to take a swim.

It was the third annual Pooch Plunge at the Castaway Bay Aquatic Center on Beck Lane. Owners could pay a $10 fee to bring their dog into the pool, or an extra $5 for a second dog.

The event is a benefit for the Shamrock Dog Park. Organizers hope to use the proceeds to fund better lighting so the park can stay open later, as well as improve the gate.

As for the human owners, like Kailey Fisher, the evening was fun but hectic.

“Getting able to run them with their friends, getting able to play with them, and making sure they are staying out of trouble right now,” Fisher said. “It’s fun.”

If you still wish to bring your dog to take dip don’t fret, the Pooch Plunge takes place Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Castaway Bay. Just make sure to bring your dog’s rabies records and maybe a toy.
