LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The 2014 Uptown Jazz and Blues Festival is less than two weeks away, and the event’s coordinator said crews have been working for a year to make the upcoming festival better than before.

The 9th annual Uptown Jazz and Blues Festival is set for Saturday, Aug. 23. A combination of eight regional and national musical acts will perform. There will also be food vendors and a beer garden for festival goers.

Event coordinator Scott Freeman said the event will expand slightly this year to improve the flow for people attending and improve visibility of the stages.

Freeman said it takes about a year to plan the event, but the hard work pays off.

“We pull out all the stops and make it this cool downtown jazz vibe, and people will just come down and hang out and just enjoy the music,” said Freeman.

Uptown Jazz and Blues is one of the last events of the summer, and Freeman said it’s an experience nobody wants to miss.

“To come down and experience it, and to just get the feel and the flavor and the smell of the barbecue. And all of the good stuff that goes on in the community, its all right there in one area,” said Freeman.

The festival runs Saturday, Aug. 23 from 5 p.m. until midnight. The fest is located at Fifth and Main streets in downtown Lafayette.

Tickets are $20 dollars for adults the day of the festival and $5 dollars for kids under 12. Any adults interested in going to the festival can save five dollars by getting their tickets in advance.

Advance tickets may be purchased in person at Greater Lafayette Commerce, 337 Columbia St., in Lafayette or any one of these Lafayette Bank & Trust locations.
