Timeline for Southwestern repairs speeds up

TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A bond resolution approved Wednesday night by the Tippecanoe School Corporation School Board will speed up the timeline for repairs at Southwestern Middle School.

The board approved an $8 million bond to pay for repairs and renovations at Southwestern and Mintonye Elementary School.

As News 18 reported Tuesday, the county council approved a resolution declaring that a natural disaster caused both buildings to be structurally obsolete.

Superintendent Scott Hanback said it’s a move that is expected to allow Southwestern to reopen about 45 to 60 days sooner.

“That makes a huge difference,” said Hanback. “Our students and staff are in a temporary location. Doing just fine with their educational operations, but we want our students and staff home as soon as possible.”

TSC also held a public hearing for the 2015 budget and authorized the financing for the $5.8 million construction project at Battle Ground Intermediate School.

Plus, Linda Day was recognized for winning the Outstanding Boardsmanship Award by the Indiana School Boards Association.
