Oracles hope momentum carries over

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) – After a 4-7 record in year one under head coach Josh Strasser in 2012, the Oracles improved to 6-6 last season and hope to finish with a winning record this year.

In the Hoosier Conference there are no gimme’s, the Oracles recovered after a 1-3 start and made an appearance in the sectional championship game. Coach Strasser was pleased with his team’s toughness and hopes it will carry over to this fall.

“We were able to get five wins at the tail end of the season, we were able to play in a sectional championship against Tipton who went on to be a state runner-up. We play some tough teams in a tough conference, guys were able to compete against those tough teams and I think that is a great building block for us for this coming year,” said Strasser.

It started at the first practice and is something they hope will continue this season. If they compete with each other, it will be easier to compete every Friday against the tough teams they face.

“Competition is getting better here, and we’re starting to catch up with the other schools or getting right up there with them. It really opened up our eyes of what we can do once we work hard, and work hard for it, and go out and compete every day,” said senior Adam Zink.

Delphi will scrimmage against Seeger Friday night before they begin the regular season on the road at Central Catholic. The Oracles understand if they want to be ready for the regular season, they need to get better against the Patriots.

“I feel like we are going to do really good this year, way better than last year and hopefully with this scrimmage coming up we will learn a lot. Coach has been here for three years now, so the program is building up better here,” said senior Treavor Cox.
