LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A new multipurpose event center has opened up in downtown Lafayette.

Carnahan Hall celebrated its grand opening Friday afternoon at the corner of Eighth and Main streets. The space formerly housed Red Poppy studios.

The venue aims to be a community space for both public and private events like concerts, theatrical productions and weddings.

There’s also a 25 percent discount to the center’s three rooms for local non-profits. The founders say they’re looking forward to the results of their labor.

“Fantastic resources are available to anybody in downtown who wants to do something. It can be difficult with the nature of these old buildings. But we made it through, so I’m excited [and] I’m ready to have a good time,” said co-owner John Warner.

Warner adds that he hopes to eventually expand and renovate a large ballroom located above the facility.
