Excise officers arrest 71 in Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. (WLFI) – Indiana State Excise Police arrested 71 people on 88 charges in Muncie the weekend before classes begin at Ball State University.

According to a press release, 47 people were arrested on 49 charges on Friday including illegal possession of alcohol, false statement of age and resisting law enforcement.

Brennen Kreig, 18, of Portland, was jailed after he fled from police near the intersection of Neely and New York avenues. He was apprehended after a foot chase and preliminarily charged with illegal possession of alcohol and resisting law enforcement.

Of those arrested Friday, four adults were charged with furnishing alcohol to minors.

On Saturday, 24 were arrested on 39 charges. The charges included resisting law enforcement, illegal possession of alcohol, furnishing alcohol to a minor, possession of false ID, misuse of license, minor in tavern, false informing and false statement of age.

Ryan Dues, 20, of Coldwater, Ohio, was jailed after a police officer saw him drinking from a can of beer near the intersection of Locust Avenue and Carson Street and resisted arrest. He was preliminarily charged with illegal possession of alcohol and resisting law enforcement.

Several people were also issued traffic tickets over the weekend, including open container violations.
