New clinic opens doors for immigrants

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Lafayette Urban Ministry Immigration Clinic is now open to help people become American citizens.

The clinic helps clients determine if they are eligible for immigration benefits. LUM is also offering a six-week pilot program to help people prepare for the Naturalization Exam through the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy.

Director Susan Brouillette said this program is a relief for those wanting to become citizens.

“We’re providing something that they’re already eligible for. We’re not providing, we’re not doing anything outside the law or giving them any kind of legal status they’re not already deserving of,” Brouillette said. “It’s a lot of stress that people are under having to deal with that on a day-to-day basis. It prevents them from a lot of things that we just take for granted.”

The clinic is now available by appointment only. If you would like to find out more, click here. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
