LPD investigating ‘suspicious death’

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Lafayette Police Department is on scene of N. 16th Street investigating a “suspicious death.”

Police told News 18 they received a call around 9 a.m. about a report of a body inside a home in the 1500 block of N. 16th Street in Lafayette. A woman was checking on the man who lived in the home and found him dead. She is currently being interviewed by police.

Officers on scene told News 18 they are investigating a “suspicious death.” Lafayette Police Lt. Brad Hayworth said after they obtained a search warrant, investigators were able to enter the home and begin. Detectives, along with the Tippecanoe County coroner, are currently investigating the home.

But Hayworth did reveal to News 18, there are reports that a couple of people were at the residence last night. He said officers are currently trying to locate those individuals.

Police added there was a child found in the home, but officers said the toddler was okay and is currently in the custody of the Department of Child Services. Officers said they also found a dog in the home and was taken by a neighbor.

Police are not releasing information on the victim at this time. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing until they can determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
