PENDLETON, Ind. (WISH) — A convicted murderer escaped his prison cell and made it to the roof of a building on the prison’s property Wednesday.

It happened Wednesday morning at Pendleton Correctional Facility in Madison County. Prison officials said Philip Littler, 28, was discovered missing after midnight. Staff members found him on the roof of the administration building and took him into custody.

Littler is serving a 45-year term for murder. He’s been at the prison since February 2013 after he was sentenced in St. Joseph County.

Staff members at the prison noticed Littler missing during routine checks.

The incident remains under investigation and Pendleton Correctional Facility is on lockdown until further notice.
