Dozens celebrate life of Lafayette murder victim at candlelight vigil

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Dozens of friends and family members came out to remember a Lafayette murder victim with candles and song Friday evening.

It was all in memory of 54-year-old Rick Couch who was found beaten to death at his home on N. 16th Street Wednesday. About 75 people came out for the candlelight vigil outside the home.

There were seven special candles for each of Rick’s children. A number of his 15 grand-kids were also in attendance.

His daughter Felicia says she’s trying to be strong and viewed the event as a celebration of his life.

“I didn’t expect to be this big of a turnout,” said Felicia. “I’m amazed at how many loved my dad. It means a lot to me.”

James Bixler, 25, was arrested hours after Couch’s body was found. He has not been charged with the crime.

Felicia said she doesn’t have peace knowing Bixler’s in jail because while she knows him, she doesn’t know why he would have killed her father. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
