Heavy rains fall overnight, more could be on the way

5 inches of rain overnight (submitted by viewer)

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Yet another round of potent thunderstorms raced southward across the viewing area Friday morning. While we’ve seen our fair share of frequent cloud to ground lightning, large hail and string wind gusts — it’s been the substantial rainfall that has been most impressive thus far.

We’ve already had numerous reports from across the region of 4 to 5 inches of total rainfall since Thursday!

Please use caution on those roads Friday morning. If you come across standing water, please turn around and find an alternate route.

It appears that we’ll receive a bit of a break from the rain during the later part of the morning and early afternoon. However, since this is a slow moving system, we may see more than an additional inch of total precipitation before the front exits southward on Saturday.
