Area leaders seeking nominations for ‘golden’ teachers to be recognized

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Area leaders are looking for “golden” teachers to be nominated for this year’s Golden Apple Awards.

Because of the lack of entries thus far, the deadline to make nominations this year is Sept. 12. Parents and community members are asked to vote for Kindergarten through fifth-grade teachers in Tippecanoe County.

Teachers then go through a rigorous process that includes observations, interviews and essays before receiving the award next spring.

“Positive recognition is what keeps us going,” Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Chair of Education Committee, Phil Tucker, said. “Teachers are so important to our future and to our children. There’s nothing better than to spend time recognizing those who are doing a good job in education.”

Tucker said nominations can be made through local school corporations or by clicking here.
